Depression and other mental health disorders

Depression and other mental health disorders oftentimes go undiagnosed because of the stigma associated with them. This is particularly dangerous, due to the fact that suicide is far too often the unfortunate outcome for those who fail to seek help or be treated for mental health issues.

Imagine that you are a high school guidance counselor and you are tasked by the principal to encourage students who experience overwhelming distress to seek help. Consider what resources you would need to make such a program effective.

PART 1:

Explain what key areas you would need to address to stand up an effective program. How would you advertise to the student population? What mental health issues are you targeting? Explain how you will reduce stigmatic beliefs and thoughts to improve the chances that someone will be comfortable seeking help.
